Power comes from Porsche’s renowned 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six, producing 331 kW (450 hp) and 620 Nm of torque, which is delivered through a 5-speed Tiptronic S transmission, with Porsche’s sophisticated all-wheel-drive system providing outstanding traction and stability.
The Turbo S builds on the already formidable 996 Turbo with an extensive list of additional equipment, including Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), a full leather interior, aluminium-look door sills and other exclusive specification enhancements. The factory X50 power upgrade was also fitted as standard, making the Turbo S the ultimate evolution of the 996 Turbo.
Rarity is the defining characteristic of the 996 Turbo S. Porsche produced just 1,563 examples worldwide between 2004 and 2005, with the model offered only for the final years of 996 production. Even more significant for the Australian market, it is understood that only around 20 examples were delivered here, making Australian-delivered Turbo S models exceptionally scarce. This limited production, combined with the Mezger engine, PCCB brakes and factory X50 specification, has made the 996 Turbo S one of the most sought-after variants of the 996 generation.
Produced at the end of the 996 era, the Turbo S represents Porsche at an important point in its history—the combination of a water-cooled generation with the highly regarded Mezger twin-turbo engine and a specification that was effectively the ultimate factory-developed 996 Turbo. Today, it is firmly established as a highly collectable modern classic.
