The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 occupies a unique place in Porsche history—bridging the legendary Carrera 2.7 and the iconic 930 Turbo while offering one of the rarest naturally aspirated air-cooled 911s ever produced. Launched in the aftermath of the 1970s oil crisis, the Carrera 3.0 represented Porsche’s determination to continue building high-performance sports cars in an era when many manufacturers were retreating from performance. Produced for just two model years, it combined lightweight G-Series styling with engineering derived directly from the Turbo, making it one of the most desirable and historically significant classic 911s.
This C16 UK Spec right-hand drive example was 'tourist' delivered new by Porsche Zentrum Nurnberg (Germany ) to its 1st Australian owner who then imported the car back to Brisbane in 1978.
It is finshed in Platinum Diamond Metallic over a cork / pinstripe interior and presents in exceptional condition throughout. Having travelled just 105,000 kilometres, it represents an outstanding opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike to obtain a very low mileage example.
Power comes from the legendary 3.0-litre air-cooled flat-six, producing 147 kW (200 hp) and paired with the desirable 5-speed 915 manual gearbox. Sharing its robust aluminium crankcase with the 930 Turbo, the Carrera 3.0 is renowned for its strength, free-revving character, and exceptional balance, delivering an engaging analogue driving experience that remains as rewarding today as it was in period.
Distinctive features include the wider rear wheel arches, forged Fuchs alloy wheels, black Carrera side script, and the timeless silhouette that has cemented the 911 as one of the world’s most iconic sports cars. Inside, the classic five-dial instrument cluster, supportive sports seats, and simple driver-focused cockpit capture the essence of Porsche’s golden era.
Just 2,566 Carrera 3.0 Coupés were produced worldwide between 1976 and 1977, with only 1,064 built in right-hand drive, making genuine RHD examples exceptionally scarce and highly sought after by collectors worldwide. Today, the Carrera 3.0 is widely regarded as one of the most important transitional air-cooled 911s, representing the final evolution before the arrival of the 911 SC.
