The Porsche 997.2 Carrera marries timeless 911 styling with direct injection performance and modern reliability. This particular example was delivered new by Porsche Centre Sydney South in June 2011 and remained with its 1st owner for 14 years. The combination of the GFC ( Global Financial Crisis ) and the introduction of Porsche's PDK gearbox meant very few manual 997.2s's were sold.
Under the rear decklid sits a 3.6 L naturally aspirated flat six producing 254 kW (345 hp), paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The 997.2 engine received numerous significant changes compared to its predecessors. Direct fuel injection meant a crisper throttle response, improved fuel economy, and stronger mid-range torque . The intermediate shaft and bearing were removed in favour of a direct chain drive from the crankshaft to the cams so there are none of the earlier series IMS issues.
Chassis and styling updates include revised front and rear bumpers, LED taillights, and an updated PCM infotainment system with touch-screen navigation and Bluetooth phone. Hydraulic steering and a compact footprint deliver direct feedback and agility, while optional PASM adaptive suspension keeps the ride composed on varying road surfaces.
Comfortable enough for daily use—thanks to a practical boot, climate control, and quality cabin materials—yet responsive enough for spirited back road drives, the 997.2 Carrera is the ideal all-rounder for enthusiasts and is today's modern classic.
