Model Year 2001 saw the return of Porsche's 911 Turbo with a water cooled mezger engine for the first time. An all new version of a Turbo, but now if a 996.
If you are after a supercar that can be used as a daily driver then the Turbo makes perfect sense, Water cooling, twin Turbos and 4wd transformed these cars making them equally superfast, safe and easy to live with.
This car is fitted with Porsches 5 speed Tiptronic transmission. These are not your average 'dumb' automatic gearbox with hundreds of gearbox maps taking input from longitudinal and latitudinal sensors, throttle input etc.. so it knows exactly when it is the right time to change gear. If you want to doddle about in traffic it changes smoothly and sedately, if you take it to the track and ring its neck it will change much more aggressively. It is just a very clever system and ultra-reliable.
