There are a number of Abbreviations and Acronyms that have become common place in the Porsche World. “PTS” I heard being used at our last “Cars and Coffee” event stand for Colour to Sample. This has been an option with the Porsche Factory for many years, where you can choose absolutely any colour and pay Porsche to find a way of building a car in that exact colour! From the colour of a Nail varnish to a colour of the car your grandfather drove, it is possible. Much more expensive, but possible.
This was the very first “Colour to Sample” Porsche that I sold in Australia. Delivered from Scuderia Veloce Motors ( now Porsche Centre Willoughby ) in June 1995, special order in “dunkelblau” ( Non metallic very dark blue ) with Cashmere leather, electric lumbar support, Tiptronic, Rear Wind Deflector and optional 17” wheels. This was a very special car.
The 993 was the fourth generation of the 911’s launched in late 1993 and sold until 1998 it was also the very last of the Air-cooled cars. It was much improved over and quite different from its predecessor. According to Porsche, every part of the car was designed from the ground up, including the engine and only 20% of its parts were carried over from the previous generation. Porsche at the time that the 993 was "a significant advance, not just from a technical, but also a visual perspective. Porsche's engineers devised a new light-alloy subframe with coil and wishbone suspension (an all new multi-link system, LSA ), putting behind the previous lift-off oversteer and making significant progress with the engine and handling, creating a more civilized car overall and providing an improved driving experience.
The car is now almost 29 years old and has one of the most complete Porsche service history’s that I have seen. We have tracked down 4 owners, all who have done very well to keep is such excellent condition. The last has spared no expense during his ownership and has recently had the big Porsche major service done, along with anything else that it needed.
Our senior Technician handed me back the detailed Pre-purchase and said it was one of the best 993 Tiptronic Cabriolets that he seen recently. Ironically, he was the same person who had signed off on the Pre-delivery inspection 29 years before!
So, if you are after a very sensibly priced Air-cool classic ( remember there will never be any more of these made ), looking for something special to remind yourself just how good Porsche cars were 3 decades back or looking for something delightful for that Sunday morning drive, this could be it. We will see you at the next Cars and Coffee
So full-service history, both original keys and looking as good as it did all those years ago!
We are an independent Porsche specialist operating since 1970 offering servicing, sales, and parts for all Porsche models.
We are located just 10 minutes from Chatswood station on Sydney's North Shore.
We will happily consider all vehicle trade-ins. We can arrange freight for our interstate customers and our financing partners offer some of the most competitive rates you will find, even on the much older air-cooled cars.
Lastly, please only enquire if you are genuinely interested in purchasing THIS car without any silly offers, we get charged $$ for every inquiry we receive so if you still need to clear the purchase with your partner, accountant or your own conscience, enjoy the photos and get back to us when you are really ready to go.
