In the world of recreations, restomods and reimagined originals the Porsche 911 is an iconic starting point for good reason. Quite simply, Porsche has always made the worlds best sports cars, so why not start there.
This stunning 2.8 RSR recreation known as the Retro Works 3.8 GTR started life as a UK delivered RHD 964 Carrera 2 Manual Targa, in its own right a very rare car.
It was transformed to what you see today in 2022 by Retro Works in the UK, a highly regarded Porsche specialist that can offer whatever your heart desires as long as its based on a 911.
This car has been setup as a fast road car, like all 911's it will happily soak up a track day but that was not the remit for this one. The owner wanted a car that could be driven without fuss on a daily basis, but with all the performance you could possibly need on the road to get yourself into serious trouble.
So the final recipe was chosen and consists of the following:
- 2.8 RSR bodywork consisting of composite F & R guards, F & R bumpers and sills. The roof, doors, bonnet and engine lid are all steel with correct 'long bonnet' latching panels crafted into the 964 chassis. The colour is non metallic Brewster green.
- Suspension is a fully adjustable KW coil over affair front and rear with all new bushings throughout.
- Brakes are refurbished factory 964 items which were completely adequate on the original car and even more so in this lighter weight form.
- The engine contains a 3.8l Mahle piston and barrel set. it received a complete rebuild right down to the crankcase and for good measure received steel head studs, ARP rod bolts, 'Sport' cams with Eibach valve springs, a custom Motronic tune, billet aluminium valve covers and last but not least the most exquisite sounding German Cargraphic exhaust system with sport cats and heat. The torque from the big 3.8L engine allows it just to lope along at low rpm but when you open it up the delivery is smooth and relentless all the way to the 6800 rpm redline.
- Clutch and flywheel are RS spec with lightning fast response but still with a nice light feel.
- The gear change is courtesy of a golden shift rod and factory short shift kit, it is superb.
- The interior is a full custom affair finished in the finest of leathers and is beautifully finished, the photos do not do it justice. It also has plenty of modern touches including a current PCM classic bluetooth radio / nav unit and a reverse camera with custom display.
- Electric air conditioning has been fitted with two custom condensers hidden away in the front bumper so it properly cold unlike the original factory set up.
- The targa roof comes in two forms; the original folding type and the composite glass roof you see in the photos that gives it a modern day large panoramic roof feeling.
- Wheels are custom-made 17' items with the correct offsets ( no crude spacers here ) shod with sticky Michelin Pilot Sports and they fill the guards perfectly.
All in all this is a very extensive package that has taken both a lot of time (2 years) and money to get to where it is now.
So if you are after that 'Singer' look at roughly a quarter of the price in a car that is fully sorted and ready to go, then here is your chance.
