The Porsche 930 Turbo is not just a 911—it is the car that redefined what a road-going performance car could be. Introduced in 1975, the 930 was Porsche’s first production turbocharged 911 and the direct result of the brand’s dominance in 1970s motorsport, where turbocharging was transforming endurance racing. Built to homologate Porsche’s racing ambitions, the 930 arrived with brutal performance, unmistakable styling, and a reputation that would cement its legend.
At its heart is the iconic air-cooled, single-turbo flat six—initially a 3.0-litre, later expanded to 3.3 litres with the addition of an intercooler. Power delivery was dramatic, with significant turbo lag followed by an explosive surge that earned the 930 its famous “Widowmaker” nickname. This raw, uncompromising character is exactly what makes the 930 so special today—there is nothing filtered, softened, or diluted about the experience. It demands respect and rewards skill.
Visually, the 930 introduced design cues that remain synonymous with Turbo models to this day: the wide rear arches, aggressive stance, and iconic whale-tail rear spoiler, engineered not just for presence but for stability and cooling at speed. These elements didn’t just define the Turbo—they defined the silhouette of high-performance 911s for decades to follow.
For collectors and drivers alike, the appeal of the 930 lies in its significance. It represents the moment Porsche proved turbocharging belonged on the road, laying the foundation for every Turbo model since. Values have surged as enthusiasts recognise its importance, mechanical honesty, and increasingly rare, analogue driving experience.
To own a Porsche 930 Turbo is to own a cornerstone of Porsche history—an era when performance was fearless, engineering was uncompromising, and the driver was truly part of the machine. Opportunities to acquire icons like this are becoming increasingly rare, and examples of this calibre are always highly sought after.
As confirmed by Porsche Cars Australia, this is a factory right hand drive example delivered new by Jebsen Motors the official Porsche Importer in Hong Kong for the 1981 Model Year. It is finished in its original colour specification of Ice Blue Metallic over a Navy interior. It was imported to Australia from Hong Kong in approx. 2005.
In the last 12 years it has been the subject of a major restoration encompassing all areas, to return it to its former glory. Works consisted of but were not limited to a bare metal re-spray using all new seals and trims. The interior was comprehensively re-trimmed in its original Dark Blue with the highlight being two supremely comfortable factory sport seats and in more recent years, all its suspension has been upgraded and replaced.
The original engine was replaced at some stage in Hong Kong with a period correct (ROW) Spec 1980 3.3L Turbo version. This engine has in the last 3 years been completely rebuilt down to the crankshaft with all new bearings, head studs, rockers, rods ( Pauter ) and 964 cams. Displacement is still 3.3L courtesy of a Mahle piston and barrel set with a slight bump in compression. If you were to price up all of the above items today it would easily be in the region of $230k +.
Lastly it comes with a thick file of invoices for all the completed work, two keys, a full body clear PPF wrap, replacement books and a comprehensive pre-sale inspection by Sydney’s leading independent Porsche specialist.
This 930 represents an opportunity for someone to just jump in and drive one of the most influential and thrilling 911s ever produced without any of the usual restoration headaches.
