The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 represents one of the most significant and desirable developments in the history of the 911—following directly in the footsteps of the legendary 1973 Carrera RS and carrying over its highly acclaimed 2.7-litre mechanically fuel-injected engine. Introduced for 1974 on Porsche's new G-Series platform, the Carrera 2.7 combined the performance and character of the RS with the more refined and practical new impact-bumper body. This example was delivered new in April 1974 by Chateau Moteur, the official Porsche dealer for South Australia at the time, and represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of Porsche's rarest and most historically significant early G-Series 911s.
Power comes from the legendary 2.7-litre air-cooled flat-six, producing 154 kW (210 hp) and featuring Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI)—the same fundamental Type 911/83 engine used in the Carrera RS. Paired with the desirable 5-speed 915 manual gearbox, the Carrera 2.7 delivers an exceptionally pure driving experience, with instant throttle response, a distinctive MFI soundtrack and performance that made it one of the quickest naturally aspirated road-going 911s of its era.
Visually, the Carrera 2.7 retains many of the defining characteristics of the RS, including wider rear bodywork, flared wheel arches, larger Fuchs forged alloy wheels and the iconic Carrera script. The 1974 model introduced Porsche's new G-Series body with impact bumpers and a strengthened structure, while the Carrera retained the unmistakable stance and sporting character that had made the RS so famous.
Production was extremely limited, with just 1,010 Carrera 2.7 Coupés produced for the 1974 model year and only 119 manufactured in right-hand drive worldwide. Of these, approximately 44 Coupés were delivered new to Australia, making genuine Australian-delivered RHD Carrera 2.7s exceptionally scarce and highly sought after by Porsche collectors.
Importantly, the car is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, confirming that it remains a matching-numbers example and retains its original factory build specification of Light Yellow over Beige interior. This documentation provides an important level of provenance, confirming the car's original identity and specification. The car also comes with owner & service books and a substantial collection of service and maintenance invoices dating back to the early 2000s, providing a valuable documented history of its ownership and ongoing care.
This example has benefited from a significant program of restoration and mechanical work. Between 2015 and 2016, the car underwent a comprehensive gearbox rebuild, full glass-out respray / body restoration, complete interior restoration, and an overhaul of the suspension and braking systems. Then in 2018, the 2.7-litre engine underwent a full rebuild, further enhancing the car's mechanical credentials.
More recently, we have completed a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection, including compression and leakdown testing. The results were exceptional, with excellent figures recorded across all cylinders, demonstrating that the engine is currently in superb mechanical health.
With its RS-derived 210 hp MFI engine, 5-speed manual transmission, matching-numbers status, confirmed original Light Yellow over Beige specification, genuine Australian delivery and extensive restoration history, the Carrera 2.7 occupies a unique position in Porsche history. Presented with excellent documentation and strong mechanical credentials, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a highly significant and beautifully restored Australian-delivered Carrera 2.7.
