This is our "Poster Girl" 1 very pretty 1973 911 E that Sydney's leading Porsche specialist chose to photograph and turn into a backdrop for their showroom! Not bad for a 52 year old beauty!
This matching numbers 1973 ( Long-bonnet ) F-Series 911 was first delivered by Hamilton's ( now Porsche Cars Melbourne ) on the 16th February 1973 in Light Ivory ( Code 131 ) with Brown leatherette and Brown Perlcord. Options included the S Comfort package, rear wiper, sill trims.
Her original radio would have been listening to Elton John's Crocodile Rock ( Number 1 hit in that month ) as Australia licensed it first Casino in Hobart and man had just walked on the moon for the last time. How times have changed.
The mechanical enthusiasts and collectors out there know that The 911 model E and S are considered the most sought-after due to their highly-praised MFI (Mechanical-Fuel Injection) 2.4 liter Flat-Six which produces 165 HP to its rear wheels.
The "E" designation referred to the German word "Einspritzung," meaning injection, and the car was known for its balance of performance and comfort.
Only 1,366 911 E model were produced in 1973 and very few of them arrived in Australia, far less have survived and there can only be a hand full of these very last "small bumper" 911's in such excellent condition!
This car was subject of extensive engine work in 2020 which included an extensive over haul of the 915 gearbox and drive train. Like most of these cars optioned with Sportomatic, it now has a more modern 915 5 speed, but the original Sportomatic transmission is include with the sale.
The current owner’s commitment and attention to detail in maintaining authenticity and performance are evidenced by a folder of receipts from both Autohaus and Michael Newton. A goose bump raising stint on his dyno is testify to that! A certificate of origin from Porsche Car Australia, original service books and key set complete the offering..
Today it is as much fun to drive as it was in 1973. It puts a smile on our face every time. A true rocket ship as she was in her day, just even more collectable today.
